Overview of the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa

The Westin Kierland Resort and Spa in Scottsdale, as with all Westin Hotels in the US, Canada, and the Caribbean, is now a totally smoke-free environment.  Smoking is not permitted in any of the guestrooms (which includes balconies or patios) or other indoor spaces, including restaurants.  It also includes a number of outdoor spaces such as within the gates of the swimming pools, the outdoor patio of the Nellie Cashman Cafe, the Kid's Playground, the Agave Spa, and the Deseo patios.  There are a few outdoor spaces designated as smoking areas, but for the most part it can now be called a true fresh-air haven for non-smokers.

So in addition to breathing freely at the Westin Kierland Resort and Spa, what else can you do?  Plenty!  The Westin Kierland features a full-service european style Spa, a state-of-the-art Fitness Center/Movement Studio, the 27-hole championship Kierland Golf Course, an 8,000 square-foot Adventure Water Park, a sand Volleyball court, Tennis Courts, a shaded kids-only playground and supervised Kid's Club, as well as a nearby upscale main-street "shopping village" with high-end specialty and boutique stores, restaurants, and entertainment.

Accommodations - Westin Kierland Resort & Spa

In addition to their 100% non-smoking policy in all guestrooms, the most outstanding thing about the rooms at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa in Scottsdale, as it is with all Westin hotels, is their trademark "Heavenly Bed", which is truly the most incredibly comfortable bed, guaranteed to ensure a great sleep experience.

At the Westin Kierland you'll also find the Westin's trademarked "WestinWorkout" rooms - complete with either a treadmill or stationary cycle, along with workout DVDs and additional fitness equipment - for more details on the WestinWorkout Room and all available room types, click this link for the Westin Kierland Resort and Spa Room Types.

In addition to a wonderful bed, all guestrooms provide upscale amenites for your comfort, such as plush velour bathrobes, egyptian cotton bath towels, a coffee maker with Starbucks coffee, a complimentary daily newspaper, a mini-bar, high-speed internet access, a work space with two dual-line speakerphones with voicemail, cable TV with in-room movies and video games, an in-room safe, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, and 24-hour room service.

For those seeking an even higher level of exclusive attention and service, consider upgrading to the Westin's Royal Peaks Club level.  Guests on this key-restricted floor enjoy exclusive access to the Royal Club lounge, offering complimentary coffee, tea, juice, and select breakfast items in the morning, afternoon snacks, hors de oeuvres, and cocktails (honor bar), as well as additional luxury amenities such as a private concierge to help with golf and dinner reservations or other Arizona adventures, and a guest office where you can get some work done or just check your email.

Facilities & Amenities - Westin Kierland Resort & Spa

Cabanas surround the pool garden, providing guests with a private area for relaxing, meditation and exterior spa treatments.  Click on this link for a Westin Kierland Resort and Spa Brochure.  (Note that this is a .pdf file that will either open in a new browser window or download to your computer based on your personal browser settings.)

The Westin Kierland Resort boasts an on-site and newly remodeled (in 2002) 27-hole golf course, The Kierland Golf Club, which allows golfers to customize an 18-hole experience by putting together any of three combinations of 9-hole courses, a system that accommodates many more golfers than the traditional 18-hole golf course.  The Kierland Golf Club also includes a full service pro shop, instruction, air-conditioned golf carts (that change to heated carts in the winter months), a shaded and cooled driving range, a Callaway rental package (including the latest woods and irons from Callaway, along with golf balls, gloves and shoes), and the FORE-MAX™ Training system, an exclusive program that provides a comprehensive approach to improving driving distance and overall fitness by bringing together traditional instruction, on-course play, fitness, training and nutrition.

For the tennis players there are 2 on-site hard courts (both are lghted for night play), and lessons are available with several local tennis professionals.

The Westin Kierland Resort also features a unique 8,000 square-foot Adventure Pool consisting of a 110-foot water slide, a 900-foot long flowing river ride (with inner tubes), two waterfalls, a zero-entry sandy beach, poolside cabanas, and two hot tubs.  There is also an adults-only pool with cabanas and a hot tub, but they do allow children there after 6pm when the Adventure Pool is closed, so it's only "adults-only" from 9am to 6pm.

For the youngest guests of the Westin Kierland (ages 4 - 12) there is the Westin Kids Club, a 365 days-a-year program supervised by the Resort's Activities Staff, that offers fun, entertaining, and educational activities from 9am to 4pm daily.

Dining - Westin Kierland Resort & Spa

The Westin Kierland Resort and Spa boasts eight unique dining choices, offering creative and delicious cuisine in a variety of beautiful settings.

Deseo - spanish for "desire" - was developed by Douglas Rodriguez,  the New York chef and James Beard award winner who is regarded as the inventor of Nuevo Latino cuisine and one of America's most honored chefs.  Using passion and innovation to elevate Latin American cuisine to a cultural art form, this offbeat and upscale restaurant features floor-to-ceiling windows that offer a stunning view of the mountains and golf course, and a unique ceviche bar where every seat offers a close-up view of the chefs as they expertly prepare refreshing ceviches.  Deseo also features a Muddle Bar, where you can choose from a selection of fresh fruits, herbs, and your favorite spirit to create a unique custom cocktail creation, or enjoy one of their fabulous mojitos.

Nelly Cashman's Monday Club Cafe, despite its name, serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily in a casual atmosphere with an open-kitchen design.  Offering cuisine with a southwestern-mediterranean flair and an emphasis on locally-grown fresh produce and indigenous recipes.  Named for a beloved local character, Nellie Cashman, and the oldest women's club in Arizona that she founded, this restaurant has quickly become a favorite with locals as well as guests, and offers patio dining as well as seating in the resort's spectacular Dreamweavers Canyon courtyard, where at certain times of the year you can enjoy the melodic sounds of irish bagpipes (performed live by Master Bagpiper Michael McClanathan) while the sun sets.

Named after a Sonoran desert plant that explodes with brilliant yellow blooms in the spring, Brittlebush Bar & Grill features innovative, contemporary cuisine.  The perfect spot for a casual lunch or early dinner, guests will find a diverse menu that ranges from light appetizers and salads to more substantial fare.  A full bar offers a wide selection of libations.  Catch a weekend sports game as you get comfortable at the stone and metal bar complete with red oak bar stools.  This lodge-like enclave’s copper and wood-beamed accents and expansive rock fireplace surround you with the Essence of Arizona.  Located in the Kierland Golf Club, Brittlebush offers patio seating with sweeping mountain and golf views, as well as a private dining room for meetings and special occasions.

The Walt & Weiser Saloon is the perfect spot for a pre-dinner cocktail or after-dinner cordial. The ambiance of an Old West saloon is recreated with dark-wooded floors, leather seating, low-beamed ceilings and exposed mineral rock. Waltz & Weiser sends us back to Arizona’s mining days and Arizona rough country. Specializing in Micro Brew Beers, Single Malt Scotch and Single Batch Bourbons while offering a light appetizer menu, billiard room and shuffle board.

For lunch or snacks poolside, wander up to J.Swilling's Pool Bar & Grill for a cactus cooler and a nod to Arizona’s farming roots. Relax with snacks, lunch, cocktails or a smoothie.

Whether or not you're enjoying a round of golf, you can still enjoy Edie's Range House for a burger or a beer.   You won’t have to wait between the Front 9 and Back 9 at this casual dining spot.  Located near the cool covered driving range and putting green.

For a cup of coffee, tea, or pastries in the morning, there is Coffee Flats and SnowBowls.  Serving Starbucks coffee and their own selection of pastries, cookies and sandwiches, as well as their new spa cuisine options, healthy and delicious.  Grab and go or stay for a while.  CoffeeFlats and SnowBowls is located on the lobby level adjacent to the main entrance.

For relaxing in the afternoon or evenings, there's The Rim bar.  Located in the middle (Plateau) section of the lobby, across from the Ali-Shonak Library, featuring specialty cocktails, premium tequilas, and an award-winning selection of wines and vintage cigars.
